Brigette was commissioned in 2017 by Miami Light Project for Here & Now: 2017, where she created the 15-minute contemporary ensemble work “Millennia”. Brigette’s most recent out-of-state choreographic residency was with SHIFT Dance in New York, NY in the summer of 2017; this is the second time she has been commissioned to teach and create an ensemble work on the professional contemporary dance company, in the summer of 2016 she created the piece “Missed Connections” in honor of the Pulse Orlando tragedy victims, for SHIFT dance and in 2017 she returned to extend the piece to be a 10 minute work.
Brigette Cormier’s pre-NWSA technical training is rooted in ballet, training extensively since the age of 9 in classical, neoclassical, and contemporary ballet (paired with tap and jazz). Since coming to Miami in 2007 Brigette has trained in the Graham, Horton, and Limon modern dance techniques, and has received extensive mentorship from former and current company members and educators in the Martha Graham Dance Company and Jose Limon Dance Company.
