Choreographer Bio:
Brigette Cormier (www.BrigetteCormier.com) is a freelance dancer and choreographer, and dance educator in Miami, FL. She received her BFA in Dance from the New World School of the Arts (Miami, FL) on scholarship in 2011 and has been choreographing and performing her new danceworks since then. In 2012 Brigette founded Love Steady Arts at 276 Art Studio in Wynwood, a multi and interdisciplinary art studio and theater, where she directed, choreographed, and curated shows and performances throughout 2012 and 2013. Brigette has danced professionally with Miami based dance companies Whole Project, The Peter London Global Dance Company, and The Pioneer Winter Collective. As a choreographer Brigette’s danceworks are original and story-based, linking together, exploring the mysteries of human connection, and expressing universal truths through the natural beauty of contemporary dance lines. Brigette’s personal dance history includes extensive training in classical ballet, tap, and modern dance, and her sources of inspiration are the voice of empowerment and change of Martha Graham and the freedom of expressivity of Doris Humphrey.
Funding Information:
Through the Pioneer Winter Collective and Jared Sharon at the RIFT Black Box Theater, Brigette is participating in a work exchange, teaching ballet & tap classes for children, for a discounted theater rental and a reduced rehearsal space rate for this soft premier. Funds for dancer stipend and costume assistance are currently being raised on the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform, located at website www.igg.me/at/Joantheballet, the campaign has until Nov. 11 to raise $1,800.
